Level 1: 4 Week Throwing Course with Pottymouth

Ready to dive deeper into the world of pottery? Our intensive Wheel Throwing Course is designed for those looking to enhance their skills and confidence with clay. Whether you’re a beginner or seeking to refine your technique, this course provides a comprehensive journey through the essentials of wheel throwing.

Over four engaging sessions, we’ll guide you from the basics to more advanced techniques, covering essential skills like centering, pulling up, and wiring off. You’ll also learn about the inner workings of a ceramic studio and how to practice pottery safely and sustainably.

Rather than focusing on creating specific items, this course emphasizes material knowledge and experimentation to help you build robust skills. Key focus areas include:

  • Consistency: Achieve uniformity in your clay work
  • Thickness: Control the wall thickness of your pottery pieces
  • Compression: Strengthen the structure of your ceramics
  • Form: Shape and define your pottery creations
  • Water Management: Maintain the right moisture levels for optimal results
  • Pressure Application: Apply the correct amount of force during shaping

Classes are held once a week at the same time for four consecutive weeks, allowing you to steadily build and refine your skills.

This course is designed to encourage learning through practice and experimentation. Therefore, a firing and glazing service is not included in the course fee. However, any pots you’d like to keep can be fired and glazed using our in-house glazes for a fee of £5 per item.

Expand your pottery skills and enjoy the creative process in a supportive and encouraging environment. Whether you’re interested in wheel throwing, pottery making, or ceramics in general, our course offers valuable hands-on experience and knowledge. Sign up today and start your journey into the art of wheel throwing!

All materials will be provided. Short nails are advised.
