A big chunk of Bedminster, between the railway line and East St up to Windmill Hill City Farm is about to get built on. What’s proposed is mostly a mixture of 1- and 2-bedroom flats and student accommodation. At the same time, there are a lot of vacant properties on East Street.

Both these situations give a chance to make space for community activity.

Last year we held some conversations that raised interesting ideas about what community spaces might be popular on these sites. We wrote up what we found in a Charter for Bedminster Green.

Now it’s time to test some of those ideas to see what people might use and how to make them successful.

How to get involved

We have illustrated some of the ideas from the charter and we’re inviting local people to give us feed back as to what they like about them, what they might use and anything we’ve missed. The developments on Bedminster Green are likely to bring large numbers of students to the area, so we’re particularly keen to hear from young people.

You can find the illustrations of ideas at along with a short questionnaire where you can tell us what you think on the dedicated Bedminster Spaces website (external link).

We look forward to hearing from you.

What happens next?

We’ll use the feedback we get to improve the ideas. Then we’ll do some maths and write a business plan to see what we can actually make work. Once that’s done we’ll be looking for funds and partners to make the ideas into reality. We’ll keep you up to date on this website.
