We are proud to share that our early years setting has achieved a Gold Award from Bristol Eating Better!
This award recognises the work we do to offer healthy, balanced meals and to make more sustainable food choices.
“The Bristol Eating Better Award supports and rewards businesses, schools, caterers and early years caterers and providers that offer healthier food options and promote food and environmental sustainability.”
All of our food is homemade by our lovely café team, who prepare fresh, nutritious meals every day. If our chef is ever off or unwell, we use Early Years Catering. They also hold a Bristol Eating Better Gold Award, so we know the quality is consistently high.
Our menus are planned to suit all the children and follow guidance on portion sizes and nutritional balance. We’ve had some lovely feedback from families, too. In our recent survey, parents told us:
“I think the meals are healthy and like homemade food, so it’s great and it’s very important for kids.”
Changing the way we think about preparing, serving and providing food also helps us to tackle climate change. The smallest changes add up to a big impact, from including more plant-based ingredients on your menus to minimising food waste.
In our setting, all leftover or uneaten food is placed in dedicated food waste bins. These are collected by our local refuse service and turned into compost, helping to reduce landfill waste and support a more sustainable future.
To get a Gold Award, a setting must meet all the bronze and silver criteria, plus go further in areas like sustainability and healthy eating – reaching over 90% of the award’s requirements.
We’re really pleased to have achieved this, and we’ll keep working hard to provide meals that are good for the children and good for the planet too!
