2026 marks the farm’s 50th anniversary and we are celebrating!
Our History
50 years ago, our wonderful community farm merely existed in the imagination of a group of volunteers. It was 1976 and our site was nothing more than a piece of inner-city wasteland. Our passionate founders were determined to see the land put to more productive use.
Working together, they challenged the council’s plans to turn the space into a lorry park and set out to create something that would connect the community with local wildlife.
Little did they know they were creating such an important community space for the people of Bedminster. One that would be visited by thousands of people every year and treasured for generations.
This year is our 50th birthday. We want to celebrate the incredible achievements of our founding volunteers and all the people who have been involved with the farm over the decades.
Community Stories
Windmill Hill City Farm turns 50 this year, and we are celebrating!
As part of our celebration, we want to hear from you. Our farm is what it is because of our wonderful local community, so we need your stories.
We are collecting your memories of the farm over the years, with the hopes of displaying them throughout the farm as part of our golden anniversary.
Perhaps you used to play here as a child, sent your child to our nursery when they were small, or volunteered your time to one of our projects.
Whatever your memory is, you can send it to: anniversary@windmillhillcityfarm.org.uk
Or post it in our golden postbox found in reception.
Our Big Birthday Bash and You are Invited!
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we will be hosting a range of community events for you to get involved with.
We will also be holding a Golden Anniversary Fayre in September. Visitors can expect: live music, food & stalls, performances, workshops and much more.
Stay tuned for updates on all our golden anniversary events. Or sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear about everything we are up to.
