How does the Toy Library work?

Stay and play

Members are welcome to stay and play with the library toys while the library is open.

Become a member

If you want to take toys home, you must become a member of the Toy Library. Membership for 12 months costs:

  • £15 – standard rate
  • £7.50 – for anyone on universal credit (just let us know)
  • Thanks to donations from members we also have FREE memberships on referral or if you are on a low income and the fee is a barrier – just email us and ask.

You can then hire five toys per child (max 10 toys per member) for two weeks. Toy hire fees are 20p, 50p, £1 or £2 depending on the toy. All money goes into keeping the library running including paying rent and buying toys. All people involved are volunteers.

We do not accept new membership applications online. To join you need to come along to a session – please bring some photo ID with your address on it.

Toys

The Toy Library is constantly adding to a great selection of toys that are available to hire. From sensory boxes, wooden toys, board games, outdoor play, role play and baby toys, the list goes on. There are toys for children aged 0-12 years. Large items are available too. You can cook up a storm in a toy kitchen, build a wall from a massive bag of foam building blocks or whizz around the garden in a toy car.

Soft play party hire items are also available.

We also don’t accept reservations for toys online. We had issues with people reserving toys and then not showing up so other people were unable to hire toys. We accept reservations for soft play items and pikler triangles – just ask at a session.

Volunteer

The Toy Library is run entirely by volunteers who run the sessions and work behind the scenes to keep the library going. The project is only able to continue if people get involved for as little as three hours a month. Get in touch if you are interested in being involved by emailing hello@southbristoltoylibrary.co.uk

Donations

The Toy Library is open to toy donations but ask for you to contact them first rather than take toys to a session.
