Whether you are a beginner needing nurturing or a practising artist needing new ideas and inspiration these small group courses are geared to cater for all.

All ARThub teachers are practising artists, artisan makers, and experienced teachers.


Design and make your own hanging panel using copper foil technique – with artist Dora McCormack

Dora will guide you through the processes to design and make your own hanging panel using the copper foil technique. You will complete your own panels to take away and will have the skills to carry on making using the copper foil technique at home.

Navigating the abstract – with artist Hannah Turner-Duffin

This course is aimed at introducing aspiring artists to a range of ways of approaching and accessing ‘The Abstract’. Beginning with experimental, observational drawing exercises, students will be guided through explorative tasks in techniques including drawing, printmaking, collage and painting. They will be encouraged to experiment and look anew in order to produce their own mixed media pieces in the final session and begin to develop their own process-led practice.

Drawing place, memories and imagination – with artist Max Naylor

Through playful exploration, guided teaching and idea development students will make an imaginative, distinctive mixed media drawing /painting.

Stencil to screen: one day tote bag printing – with artist Anna Marrow

This day course will be a fun introduction to simple screen printing techniques. Students will work with hand cut paper stencils and photographic stencils to produce their own, hand-printed tote bag that will double as a work of art. You will use inspiration from the city farm to draw your tote bag design.

Life sculpting – with artist Sophie Howard

Through guided teaching and experience students will make a clay portrait sculpture of head and shoulders from life – there will be a life model both days. Develop an understanding, through practice, of creating a sculpture from observation in clay. Students will gain skills in processes and materials and build creative confidence. There will be the option to have the piece fired afterwards at cost.

Form and structure: drawing at the allotments 2 – with artist Max Naylor

As the seasons change so too will the focus of our drawings. In this session students will re-examine the allotments, noticing how the foliage has died back to reveal the underlying structures and man-made partitions. Using a much reduced colour pallet, students will make a drawing focusing on linear structure and architectural detail.

Learn to weave in colour – with artist Angie Parker

Angie has been weaving for over 25 years and creates bespoke rugs and textile art panels in her Bristol Studio. You can learn to weave under her patient guidance on this one day course.

Botanical patterns – with artist Justyna Medon

Through playful exploration of various print techniques, guided teaching and idea development, students will design and print botanical patterns through stencilling and silk screen printing techniques and create their own mini homeware collection, such as tea towels and napkins.

Mood and atmosphere: drawing at the allotments 3 – with artist Max Naylor

In this session students will think about how to capture the essence of the particular day as much as the place we are in. Responding to the weather conditions students will make an image that conveys an emotional response to the environment.
