Gardens

Everyone is welcome to indulge in the urban oasis of the community gardens. Whether you wish to sit and immerse yourself in the view or take a more active role in shaping your community, our green space is perfect.

Teams of volunteers join staff to share and learn skills as we tend the land and grow food with ‘zero food miles’ for use as ingredients in our café. Our aim is that the gardens at the City Farm are beautiful, productive, educational, inclusive and sustainable.

Our food is grown following organic principles. During the spring we are busy sowing, hunting slugs and planting. The summer finds us watering and weeding as we continue to sow and harvesting increases. In the autumn community gardeners enjoy the fruits of their labour and prepare for winter. Winter jobs include taking cuttings, planning, pruning, tidying and holding warm mugs of tea.

Our resources are excellent: greenhouse, polytunnel, ponds and over 20 vegetable beds, nature garden and orchard. We grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers.
