The new space creates a welcoming green space as the main entrance to the City Farm that better fits the ethos of the organisation and is accessible for all local community members. There will be a further phase of planting in the spring to finish off the area.
The project has been achieved with a huge amount of input from volunteers working alongside our own staff team. Apart from the tarmac, it’s ‘all our own work’.
We have some time-lapse video that shows the transformation – split up month-by-month it shows the works in progress from grey to green (via quite a bit of muddy-brown).

There is a design brief that outlines what we aimed to achieve with the space.
We had the support of Stride Treglown in drawing up a design. Some initial draft sketches can be downloaded below to get an idea of where we started.
The project is made possible with funding from the Cory Environmental Trust in Britain, Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust, the Society of Merchant Venturers and the Van Neste Foundation. McCarthy Construction and Acorn Surfacing helped us with the surfacing and waste removal and we have an enthusiastic team of volunteers who poured their time, energy and love into working with our dedicated staff team. Thanks to all of them.
