| This photo was taken on the biggest ever demonstration
in this country in March 2003. When I saw the Napoleonic
soldier by the statue of Wellington holding the Stop the
War Poster, I just had to take a picture of it. Of Course,
The demo itself was exciting and exhilarating and not at
all unhappy. It’s the general militarism of British
culture, partly embodied by such war statues, and the threat,
later to become the reality, of invading Iraq, that I was
distinctly unhappy about.
Still there’s a wonderful irony in this photo which
at least made me smile and chuckle.
