Everyone is welcome to indulge in the urban oasis of the Community Gardens. Whether you wish to sit and immerse yourself in the view or take a more active role in shaping your community, our green space is perfect.
Teams of volunteers join staff to share and learn skills as we tend the land and grow food with "zero food miles" for use as ingredients in the Farm's café. Our food is grown following organic principles. During the spring we are busy sowing, hunting slugs and planting. The summer finds us watering and weeding as we continue to sow and harvesting increases. In the autumn community gardeners enjoy the fruits of their labour and prepare for winter. Winter jobs include taking cuttings, planning, pruning, tidying and holding warm mugs of tea. Our resources are excellent: greenhouse, polytunnel, ponds and over 20 veggie beds, nature garden and orchard. We grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. Please see the courses section for formal learning opportunties or get involved through volunteering. A new Garden Strategy was approved by the Board of Trustees in March 2013 and can be downloaded here (pdf 157KB). |
