Board of Trustees

The board of trustees is elected from the membership of the organisation at the annual general meeting of the charity. Trustees meet every six weeks to undertake the board business. These board meetings are open for members to observe. Members wishing to attend should inform the Chief Executive at least one week in advance of the meeting. Meetings will take place at Windmill Hill City Farm from 7.30pm on 3 December 2012 and on the following Mondays in 2013:

21 January, 4 March, 15 April, 3 June, 15 July, 2 September, 14 October and 2 December.

The AGM will be on Saturday 28 September 2013 at 10 am.

Any member interested in joining the board should contact the Chair through the Farm office.

Nigel Singer, trustee Nigel Singer
Nigel has been on the Board of Trustees since November 2008. He has good memories of bringing his children to the farm when they were younger and leaping about with them in the rumpus room. He lives in Southville and runs his own business as a mediator, trainer, facilitator and coach.

Michelle has been an avid user of the farm ever since her two year old was born. Michelle grew up on a farm and has always thought that city farms are a vital part of allowing city children to learn about and appreciate animals. Michelle lives in Windmill Hill and currently works for Fujitsu Services in IT Project Management.
Sally Jones, trustee Sally Jones
Sally has been a regular user of the Farm for the last three years with her two young children who have used many of the services the Farm has to offer. Sally found, when moving to Windmill Hill, that the Farm is the hub of the local community for many people. Sally has been a stay-at-home mum since 2005 and her background is in administration in the public sector. Sally is also the Secretary of the Somerset Terrace Action Group
Chris Heaton, trustee Chris Heaton
Chris's original career was in infrastructure management (holes in the ground), mostly with British Gas, and then with a cable communications company. Following redundancy, he had a number of jobs, including building and lorry driving. Chris worked at the Farm as a member of the Site Services Team for 18 months in 2003-2004, when his wife's career brought them to Bristol. In 2005 he joined Emmaus Bristol, a St Philips-based charity which is part of an international movement of communities of formerly-homeless people, who support themselves by working in a furniture and household goods re-use project. His current role is that of Operations Manager. Chris and Lal live in Southville, about five minutes walk from the Farm, where they have an allotment.
Jamie Darwin, trustee Jamie Darwen
Jamie was co-opted onto the Board of Trustees in September 2010, having recently moved to the local area. Before moving to Bristol, he was for four years a trustee of a community venture
in the Midlands which had a similar ethos and range of services, and he is passionate about the ways that organisations like the Farm can empower people and help to build stronger communities. In his professional career, Jamie has worked with a wide range of voluntary and public sector organisations - particularly around the involvement of volunteers.
Richard Harris, trustee Richard Harris
Richard lives outside Bristol but has been engaging with the Farm on a professional basis for several years. He works for ARA (Addiction Recovery Agency), a charity in Bristol that works with people in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. His role is primarily ETE (Employment Training and Education) where he motivates clients to make positive changes around their lifestyle in regards to nutrition and hydration, developing new skills and most importantly developing a positive structure to their days. This structure revolves around voluntary work and the Farm is an ideal place for ARA's clients to work on such skills as their self esteem and confidence as well as giving something back, making new 'safe' friends and learning new skills.  Some of the clients Richard has encouraged to volunteer with the Farm have been there for several years and are now enrolled onto college courses through the Farm. Richard joined the Board of Trustees in August 2012. He is also Chair of the Volunteer Operational Board for Somer Valley FM, a community radio station based in Midsomer Norton near where he lives with his partner, a big soppy dog and his daughter who attends Bristol Cathedral School.
Emily Talbot, trustee Emily Talbot
Emily returned to Bristol in June 2012 from London, where she worked as a solicitor specialising in health and social care. She had previously lived in Bristol for the duration of her university degree. Emily now lives in Windmill Hill and became involved with the farm after learning how much it has to offer as a community resource. Emily is particularly interested in helping to develop community engagement projects and is volunteering at the farm in this area. She joined the Board in September 2012.
